The Burmilla is a breed of domestic cat which originated in the United Kingdom in 1981. It is a cross between the Chinchilla Persian and Burmese breeds.

: The Burmilla inherited the colour variations of both breeds, creating a palette of subtle hues and tones. Brown, blue, chocolate and lilac from the Burmese, combining perfectly with the black tipping and shading from the Chinchilla. With the addition of silver came the added the glamour of the aesthetically pleasing eye liner and darker lip markings in contrast with the brick red nose.

The history of the Burmilla as a breed and the formation of the Burmilla Cat Club is quite an extraordinary one. Burmillas originated from a chance mating between a Burmese and a Chinchilla in 1981. The article by Thérèse Clarke entitled "Green Eyes and Silver Sparkle - The Enchanting Story of the Burmilla" outlines in detail the story of that accidental mating between Jemari Sanquist and Bambino Lilac Fabergé.
In 1983 the Burmilla was recognised as an independent breed with the CA Association after the Association was presented with a Breeding Program and Breed Standard. The Burmilla Cat Club (BCC) was founded on 21 January 1984 with the aim of getting together breeders willing to start independent lines as well as half lines ensuing from Kartush parentage, to promote the breed by exhibiting regularly at CA shows and to contribute to a club magazine: THE BCC MEWS.
Since then the BCC, granted affiliation to the CA in July 1986, has held Spring Exemption Shows and All Breeds Championship Shows in October each year - these became International following CA's election as the British Member of the Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe) in May 1990.
Following the winding-up of the CA in November 2004, the BCC became Associated with the newly formed Independent club Everycat UK in December 2003 and continues to hold International championship shows annually.
